Tooraweenah will host the prestigious Tom Quilty Gold Cup Endurance Ride on the 8-10 July 2022. The horse ride covers 160kms in 24 hours and is Australia’s National Endurance Championship. ‘To complete is to win’ is the ride motto, emphasising the high standard of horsemanship required to successfully complete this challenging ride.
The Tom Quilty Gold Cup dates back to 1966 when Tom Quilty , encouraged by his friend RM Williams, donated 1000 pounds to make a Gold cup, a perpetual trophy, so the ride was named in his honour. Tooraweenah Showground is a tried and proven venue for endurance rides. The track takes in the spectacular Warrumbungle mountains and 2022 marks 31 years since Tooraweenah hosted this event in 1991.
Up to 300 riders compete in this event including overseas competitors, who are followed by large support teams. No prize money is awarded, however the prestige of winning the gold cup is highly sought after. In addition, the renowned Tom Quilty buckle is issued to riders who successfully complete the ride.
The Tooraweenah Community and 2022 Tom Quilty Committee look forward to welcoming all riders, strappers and spectators travelling to participate.
